Bloglines offers hotkey-navigation
I just saw that Bloglines.com now has a implemented a hotkey-navigation for their interface:
Compared to Google Reader, there even seem to be some “standards”, like “j – next” and “k – previous”:
Given that hotkey-features on web interfaces are pretty rare, I think it will be crucial to have some standards for them to become widely accepted. Users won’t spent the time to learn a new kind of hotkeys for each website they visit (and, on the other hand, I don’t think EVERY website needs hotkey navigation…!).
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen these hotkeys somewhere before (especially “j” and “k” for next/previous). I’ve googled around a little bit but couldn’t find an explanation why “j” and “k” seem to be suited for previous/next. Is it because they are almost in the middle of the keyboard? I KNOW that it will take me some time to get accustomed to these keys. It’s almost like using vi (a Linux editor) for the first time, only difference is that vi offers no other kind of navigation
